My BIL/SIL have long bragged about how wealthy and well compensated they are. Now they are relocating to NY. And all I hear about is how expensive everything is and how "unfair" it is that they can't afford a four bedroom apartment and private school. Now, will they realize why I was never so impressed that they could afford a nice house and a country club in Middle America? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Oh, please. Some annoying people who had the nicest clothing Sears makes to wear at their country club brag about how much they spent on tickets to see the Milwaukee Brewers play move to NY and learn that they really aren't rich and they were making fools of themselves by bragging. That is funny. Letting them fall on their one is revenge. OP could have warned them. She let them try to buy a 4 bedroom and they were probably shell shocked by the price and want to know if they can cram their family into a studio. [ Reply | More

I'm not jealous. If I wanted their life, I could have it. I make far more than they do and can afford far more than they have (in NY or elsewhere). I just have different spending habits and don't get off discussing my income or wealth with family. What is pinging your radar? No one else seems to see it. [ Reply | More

so now you are bragging in the way you seem to hate their bragging. it's disengenuous. you are pinging my radar, so to speak, bc i think your outlook (based only on this post, obviously) is limited. and i think you'd be a lot happier if you changed it. money seems to play a huge role in your life. perhaps bigger than is healthy. to be honest, my initial response was meant to be as is. i ddin't really intend on explaining myself. thus, the ping on my radar, isn't quite as big as one might think. i'll forget it the minute i close my browser. There is a big difference between mentioning a fact on an annon board and discussing it with family in a condescending tone. And money doesn't play a huge role in my life. I happen to be very well compensated, as is DH. But we don't get much pleasure from possessions, so we don't have much "stuff". We would rather retire in a few years. [ Reply | More
