we had a fiend stay with us this past weekend who's son just finished K at a g&t. My daughter (same age) attends our zoned school and the friend was going on and on about how my daughter was behind in reading because she is not really reading yet. I told her that early reading was not an indication of anything and that I was not worried but she just kept going on about how my daughter was behind and I should really work with her. WTF! agree. maybe the OP was saying how her dc wasn't reading yet, her friend thought she was concerned about it, and offered suggestions for working with the child. hardly a crime, but people are VERY sensitive these days. better to say nothing. [ Reply | More

the sad thing is ds finished k this year in our gen ed zoned brooklyn school, and every kid in the class was reading (though most were not when they started). it's all what teacher you get -- it has very little to do with how "gifted" the kids are [ Reply | More
