I could scream! My 8 yo ds has a book report to do over the summer and hand in on the first day at the new school he'll be attending. He was stumbling tonight on spelling simple words like contractions, etc and I feel like such a fool for not choosing this better school right from the start. I thought I'd send him to the local Catholic school and I feel like it's been 3 wasted years. Honestly, I don't know what he's learned!!! [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

wow, that is so harsh. all kids learn at different speeds. What is messed up with these schools is that kids who learn more slowly or learn things later are stigmatized and then keep that with them for the rest of their lives. [ Reply | More

he can write a sentence and granted the book is a tough one. But not being able to spell couldn't. not knowing where the apostrophe belongs. yikes! [ Reply | More

The biggest thing he should have "learned" so far is a curiousity and love of learning. Don't stress b/c your 8 year old couldn't spell couldn't. He's doing his summer work way before the first day of school--I think that's pretty impressive! [ Reply | More
