I don't get it. Have read up on Anderson and don't understand all the hype. Sorry, I am from here and have never heard of it but am open to everything but still, not really IMO impressive enough to warrant all this craziness. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

just search for Anderson and read all the garbage here. That's all you need. [ Reply | More ]

I began to hear about it on this board and so I did some research, I just don't get it. What is the big deal, it just seems like your typical public school. Maybe a little better than a general ed school but worthy of all this craziness? [ Reply | More ]

actually, imo, it's a far better school than your typical gen ed, but to each his own. if you don't think so, don't apply. [ Reply | More ]

It's the best DOE-run public school in the city IMO. Can't compare with private in terms of extras but academically on par. [ Reply | More ]

NP: I find that really difficult to believe, but then what about Hunter. We knew it wasn't the best school in the world but that it was definitely up there [ Reply | More ]

yes, because they make it the center piece of the presentation [ Reply | More ]

no, they don't. the Q&A is the centerpiece, as is the self-guided tour. the video is only a few minutes out of a much longer presentation -- and it's exceptionally outdated to boot. [ Reply | More ]

Wha? Last time I went to the OH at Anderson they cut the Q&A short because they ran out of time. Guess why? Because they showed the movie. [ Reply | More ]

ran out of time because they showed the 5 minute movie? doubt it -- probably ran out of time because of the ridiculous questions being asked. [ Reply | More ]

nope. We had time for three questions or so. If they only skipped that movie we had time for a few more. But the movie was more important than the FAQ. [ Reply | More ]

i think the public vs private choice is very personal. for us, anderson has proven to be a wonderful, nurturing, and challenging place. great teachers so far, great curriculum, great specials. really, couldn't be happier with the school for our dc. [ Reply | More ]

even so, it's a comment that misses the mark. i am private-school educated and still prefer certain public schools. not all public schools, of course -- but some privates are terrible, imo. and many factors go into making a school "great" -- many of which are subjective. [ Reply | More ]

Doesn't sound as if you went to private school in NYC. True not all privates are created equal but NYC has the largest number of the best in the country. Privates in the suburbs are very often for behavior problem dcs and those who need extra help [ Reply | More ]

went to one in brooklyn. i think you're generalizing too much about privates in NYC (and, by inference, public schools in NYC). we can agree to disagree -- i'm a sort of "live and let live" type when it comes to school choice, thinking that school decisions are highly individualized and that the criteria that goes into defining what is "the best" are highly subjective. I am not into college exmissions and HYP just into curriculum and education and I agree some schools are better for some dcs but in the final analysis there are schools that are academically stronger than others but again this is just my opinion [ Reply | More ]

i think we're arguing a point that is difficult to parse -- we could have different opinions on what constitutes a "stong" curriculum. in any event, i agree with you in theory, but i think it's important to allow for subjectivity in the analysis, which, at the start of this discussion, i'm not sure was being acknowledged. what's the big deal about you? frankly, you don't seem all that smart or interesting. wonder why your dh chose you, or your dcs don't want to leave home asap. I have been around a long time, and I never understood why anyone would even like someone like you. [ Reply | More ]

Just remain open to everything. That's the key to keeping your sanity during the schools process. That's how we approached it, and it worked out in our favor in the end (going to Anderson and thrilled about it, since private is not an option for us). [ Reply | More ]

I am not sure why you insist on continuing these ridiculous posts filled with contempt and hostility. I cannot believe anyone is actually answering you in a serious way. Your question and statement are just so obviousy provocotive and hostile, its unblievable. I imagine you are a very bitter woman. Hopefully, your bitterness/sadness or just plain meanness will not be shared too much with your dcs. [ Reply | More ]
