Maybe they didn't get FA, or reconsidered the single-sex thing. It could happen. [ Reply | More ]

Why? Because I would give up a spot at Collegiate for a spot at Anderson? It's not because I'm a looney, it's because our finances are obviously a little tighter than yours. [ Reply | More ]

That makes sense, I am talking about a woman who said money was not an object and did that. [ Reply | More ]

so? maybe she actually prefers public school to private. we do and didn't even apply to privates for our dd (who is at anderson, btw, but we made the decision to scrap private school even before she got in there). we can afford private school too, without too much sacrificing. in part, it's the attitude of some private school parents that no education could possibly come close to matching that at private school that influenced our decision to go the public school route. There is definitely an "up side" to avoiding the social pressure of a NYC TT school, especially when the family is not as phenomenally wealthy as most of the other families. [ Reply | More ]

NP: This is all such horses%it. I went to a TT private school and our dcs are there now, this sense that it is crawling with entitled rich dcs is overblown [ Reply | More ]

Just spent the weekend with DF and her 14-year old DD (who attends a TT school). DD spent the entire weekend complaining about the size of their house and the fact it wasn't in a "better" part of the Hamptons. Don't think she would have done that if she were in public. [ Reply | More ]

Of course someone would if the finances were just too tight. Probably thinking they could reapply for middle or high school when the difference between private and public are most notable. We got DS into a TT this year and I was considering giving it up if we got DS into Anderson. I love the private (our FC) and IMO it's better suited for DS - but if you make under $300K combined - privates are tough to afford. [ Reply | More ]

Absolutely. If money is a big issue it makes perfect sense to do this. [ Reply | More ]

We make $600k combined and it's STILL tough to afford...especially for two DC... [ Reply | More ]

We pay $6k per month in rent, have a full time nanny, and are (trying to) save for retirement. I'm not saying we can't do it, I'm saying it's tough. I've had to cut out all cabs and other "luxury" items. [ Reply | More ]
