flying solo with a 13mo to europe- am I nuts? Any tips from moms who have btdt? I am planning on dvds and prayer (kidding). Getting nervous... [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

not nuts, youll be find. db will sleep most of the way (assuming you're on an overnight but I could be wrong). just have snacks, toys, fave stufty or blanket, and dvds (though you're likely on a plane with individual screens and a kids channel, but who knows? [ Reply | More

Flying overnight was a terrible idea with our 11mods he screamed all the way to uk and back and we were shattered and people around us were trying to sleep. I would not fly overnight again. [ Reply | More

op- was he a good sleeper at home? Was it your first time with him overnight on a plane? My ds has been overseas before (at 5mo) and while he was a horrible sleeper then he did manage 5 hrs straight on the plane. You are scaring me! [ Reply | More

Bring lots of snacks and be prepared to work! Is dc walking yet? If so, you will be up and down the aisles. I've done trans Atlantic flights many times by my self with 2 dcs from when they were infants to now (7 and 10). [ Reply | More

op- yeah, dh has to work so its just me. overnight ewr to copenhagen, have family meeting me there so that part will be ok. He is trying to walk but a crawling madman who has ants in his pants all day long. great sleeper at night but not sure how to make him comfortable for the overnight part. booked bulkhead so I thought I would make a soft area in front of me with blankets for him and hopefully that will work. Not sure what else to do. I know I will be busting my a** the whole time he is awake to keep him entertained so the tips are super helpful! [ Reply | More

That is what you'll have to do - make a nest of blankets - my dbs had not too much trouble falling asleep that way, the only issue is noise - can he handle things in/on his ears? You might want an ipod with classical soothing music to help him sleep. [ Reply | More

op- oh, and he's 33 lbs so I can't do the bassinette which was awesome last time I went with dh for christmas. This is also why things can get especially difficult when I have him alone- so heavy I have physical therapy for carpel tunnel from lifting him all day! [ Reply | More
