DF admitted that she prepped her now-13 year old DD on the ERB and that noone ever gets caught. Wondering if that's true or not. Does anyone on this board actually know a DC who was called out for being prepped? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

She better be careful. Private school do counsel out children... it's not like prepping for an IQ test makes the kid any smarter. [ Reply | More ]

Their DD is 13 and is top of her class, so I doubt she's going to be counseled out at this point! [ Reply | More ]

Probably tutored to hell. If she was prepped at 4yo with a private psych, I'm more than certain the parents forked over $$$$ for tutors in every class. That kid won't be able to compete on her own in college or after. [ Reply | More ]

baloney, the child is probably very bright, don't kid yourself that the ERB is so reliable when the kids are 4. probably the tutoring just made sure she did well, and provided insurance against an "off day" [ Reply | More ]

I don't think being caught is as in your face as being "called out". According to my psd, if the tester suspects prep, it will be indicated on the report. For instance, if the kid doesn't require instructions, this is noted. Up to the *schools* to decide whether kid's playdate performance (and school report--preschools don't lie as doing so will ultimately impact their ability to get dcs into schools) matches erb score. Ultimately, it's an IQ test, and if your very average kid scores a 99/99/99, red flags will go up. [ Reply | More ]

know many who got that notation on the report, and still got in. of course they prepped, but it is very very hard to prove, and erb people do not want to take on a bunch of lawsuits. the tests are not infallible, and most average to bright kids, even prepped, with the right education will do fine. so its worth the risk for many. Then schools admitted these kids knowing they cheated. Maybe $$$$$ families or PSD report indicated these kids are very smart anyway and really dind't need prepping though pita parents did it anyway. [ Reply | More ]

Especially with kids like mine who will say they know how to do everything and they've done it all before [ Reply | More ]

OR Perhaps. But, fwiw, my dc's score report did state that she listened carefully to instructions. [ Reply | More ]

so are you saying that the testers are subtle in their comments? or do they come right out & say they suspect something? [ Reply | More ]

If the tester can tell that your dc has been prepped they will indicate it in the narrative section of the ERB score. It is seriously frowned upon by schools who will read the report. [ Reply | More ]

What does she mean by prep? You mean hire a psych to administer same ERB test ahead of time or just Brainquest type of things? [ Reply | More ]

I don't know anyone that did, but I do know that there are psychologists out there that claim they can prep undetected for $500 and hour. I think it is a bad idea and think it is that wide spread. [ Reply | More ]

My friend has children who are graduating from college. She said everybody prepped for the ERBs back then. Her DC went to Spence and Chapin. [ Reply | More ]
