potty training: we cannot get ds to stop asking for diapers to poop in. he's been pee trained for over a month, but once pooped in his underwear and ever since asks for diapers and freaks out if we ask him if he wants to try to potty. Any advice for getting through this? I feel so bad for him when he gets upset. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

No advice but I've heard this a lot so someone will have good advice for you. My ds will not poop on the potty either yet. [ Reply | More ]

2.6yo. Never tells me when he want to pee or poop but when I ask if he wants to go he always says yes and goes (not poop though). [ Reply | More ]

go with it until he's ready. offer m&m's (2 for going poop, 1 for trying) for potty use. watch elmo's potty video. read "where's the poop" and "everyone poops". [ Reply | More ]

doing m & m's, have everyone poops, he's anti-Elmo (alas, because everyone tells me about that video...). Have tried toy bribes, stickers, doing it with him/next to him. Kind of stumped by this. Also, when he poops in a diaper, he then freaks about taking it off, which is new. [ Reply | More ]

yeah. sometimes they like to stay close to their poop for a while. from a developmental perspective, pooping is a child's first creative act. it feels like a part of them and can be scary to let go of. I would not push this right now. it sounds like he is not quite ready to go on the potty. i would lay off even suggesting the potty for a while, but keep reading the books and get some more books about it (like i said,"where's the poop" is great). and just be patient. Np. some kids gets scared of the mess and loosing something from his body. If you can bare it then take off the poopy diaper and show him tipping the poop into the toilet and flushing it away. GL [ Reply | More ]

How old? DS is 3 and will not even pee in the potty. He tried sitting on it a few times, about a year ago. Something obviously freaked him out, because it's now full out tears if we even suggest it. [ Reply | More ]

my dc pooped in a pull up for months after being potty trained for pee. Just let it go. He is not ready and it is very common for poop to come later than peeing in the potty. [ Reply | More ]
