My DD, almost 21 months, is saying only about 9 words and only a few words with any frequency. I know some children are talking much more at this age. When I've gotten advice, people say to go to Early Intervention. But I have to believe, that children go at their own pace and if it was 30 years ago, our parents would do nothing and wait. But we're much more alarmist in our generation-- especially with milestones. Does anyone agree or disagree??? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Disagree. I think we need to the best we can with the information we have, otherwise we are neglectful. Our DD was delayed and we did EI and it was great for us, super helpful. I think she would have been fine anyway but having the therapist come was great for the whole family and we gained much from the experience. DD is ahead of the curve now and doing well.
