Almost 3 yo dd fights me every night to go to bed. She screams and cries, sometimes she fights me to get her clothes on etc then gets out of bed 10 times before she finally goes to sleep. I'm at my wits end and I am doing this alone since dh is in the military. Tonight I told her if she got out of bed I would spank her and I did and she got out again so I spanked her again. I am so sick of it. She is a huge challenge all day/every day and I am sick of her not listening to me. I am consistent and a good mom and she is stubborn and even tells me, "mommy you are not the boss of me". When I ask her to do things like clean her toys up she tells me, "I will do it when I am ready". Any tips, what can I do about the bed time thing? I asked dh what to do and he said tell her that's 30 more minutes, and I said 30 min of what and he said, "I don't know", uhg. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

What happens if you stop talking to her at all and just keep putting her back in bed over & over? My oldest is very stubborn and would LOVE to be the one in charge. I have had to take that approach with him a couple of times and it worked. [ Reply | More

lady, I have a 3yo too and I do so want to spank her but don't go there as it causes more harm then good. Let's figure this out, I need some more info. Do you have a bed time ritual? What is it? Do you prepare her for bed? Talk about bed & sleeping in a pleasant way at other times of the day? Do you let her make choices about bed? and by choices I mean night gown, friend to take to bed, bed time story choices, etc., Does she have pillows and blankets she likes? [ Reply | More

I have a 3 yo too. Any illusions I had about being a good parent are pretty much gone :) Have you read How to Talk so Kids will Listen...? That helped me a ton, to understand things from her perspective, and to come up with solutions for getting things done- for getting her into bed without drama, for getting her dressed in the morning without a zillion tantrums. etc. And I echo previous comment about spanking not doing any good- it's a short-term solution and sends the wrong message anyway. gl [ Reply | More
