When a schools says that they individualize curriculum based on the abilities and learning style of each child, is it really true? How can they possibily do this? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Once they get a sense of where each child is, say on a continuum, they can adjust lessons/segments/expectations for each child. [ Reply | More ]

But do they actually do it? In your child's experience? [ Reply | More ]

I felt that my ds's K teacher adjusted for each child--not the lesson, per se, but how she approached each child, her expectations, etc. But my ds's K class had only 14 kids, with a full time aide [ Reply | More ]

I would agree about DS's kindergarten teacher. She does a lot of small group & individual instruction. Small class size plus an aide and parent volunteers--that helps a lot. But it's also just her approach--she's a really gifted teacher. She got my DS on a level no teacher has before. [ Reply | More ]

I haven't heard a school say they individualize curricula, but I have heard my dc's school say they try to accommodate different learning styles. Here's one example: my child, in 3rd grade, had to do a book report that could be done in written form, poster style form with drawing, as a dance or verbally. [ Reply | More ]

That is something they should tell you on tours, some people would steer very clear of a school like that and others wouldn't [ Reply | More ]

The smaller the class and the higher the teacher ratio determines how much individualized attention they can provide. Most private schools can provide smaller group instruction based on ability and change those groupings as often as needed. [ Reply | More ]

they don't, especially in private school. They are lying...that's why they have such a secretive application process...they choose kids who fit their style and if they make a mistake and choose a kid who doesn't respond to their style, they kick them out. If they could individualize curriculum like that, they'd just take kids first come first serve. [ Reply | More ]
