before my dh left the house this morning for 15 hours, he let me go to the gym. . . while I was gone, he did nothing. didn't get the kids dressed or groomed, left all the dishes etc. etc. He knew that I had to get the kids out of the door shortly after I got home. . . the point is not that he didn't have time to help but that it doesn't even occur to him. . . he just assumes I'll take care of it. It makes me crazy. . . any suggestions? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

have you tried asking him? "hey hon, while I'm at the gym can you get the kids dressed and ready to go for when I get back?" [ Reply | More ]

I did ask him to get the kids ready while I was gone. When I got back, he said he didn't have time b/c he was on the pot--his stomach was bothering him. He was ready to run out the door--no apologies, no explanation for the mess until I got annoyed. [ Reply | More ]

I believe him that he spent a lot of time on the pot. . . which is fine. . . but I'm annoyed that it doesn't occur to him to help me out before he leaves for the whole day on a weekend. [ Reply | More ]

oh, so he refused to help you out once you were back home? Where did he have to go so suddenly? Btw, why are you married to that dweeb? It is Saturday and he is not going to spend the weekend with his family? [ Reply | More ]

No. the start time was fluid. . . and really, 5 minutes of him helping would have gotten the kids dressed and teeth brushed. . . it would have been helpful to me. [ Reply | More ]

I am confused. So while you were out he had a stomach problem and spent most of the time in the bathroom. Then by the time you got back he felt better but was on his way out for his volunteer work. Where exactly was he supposed to squeeze in the kids if he was really as sick as he said he was? [ Reply | More ]

is this tmi? i was gone for 1 1/4 hours. he said he was entertaining the kids. then, later said he was on the pot three times so he didn't have time for anything else. he wasn't really sick, just had to poop a lot. [ Reply | More ]

4 and 6. . . so it's not like they need so much help, just direction. . . [ Reply | More ]

I think you may have more luck working on them. They are seriously old enough to get themselves completely ready to go--so maybe tell them they need to be ready by a certain time and just have him reinforce that. [ Reply | More ]

It's a good point. Dcs are pretty responsible. . . but he didn't even encourage them to do anything to get ready. [ Reply | More ]

I get how annoying that can be (that he didn't pitch in) but I would start putting the responsibility onto them. One thing that we do that helps is saying that they can't come downstairs until they're dressed. Then they take care of all of that themselves (6 & 2). [ Reply | More ]
