I am considering a prek for my daughter. she is currently 18 months. Do you know of any schools in the ues, uws, harlem area that have a prek program. Also Do i need to take the erb test. Convent of sacred heart's catalog said that the erb is required for pre-k. And last, how will my daughters late dec birthday affect her education. Ive heard of ppl on here say they had to repeat prek 3 times. What does that mean. Thank you. Your help is greatly appreciated. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

she's young enough that you can change her birthday and she'll never know you've falsified her bc. I would give her a February or March birthday to be safe. GL! [ Reply | More ]

i dont have any idea on how to do that. but im sure that would backfire. that would mean that she would be behind developmentally 9-10 months, which is a ton for a toddler. [ Reply | More ]

no, i meant to switch her ahead, not behind. Make her 15 months old right now -- see? [ Reply | More ]

You are getting yourself too worked up. Pre-K usually starts at age 3. At my son's school, minimum age in Sept. was 2 years 10 months. Some private schools require August or Sept. birthdays so that child is 5 when entering K. [ Reply | More ]

That means that would be the absolute youngest she could be in September - they prefer kids who are already 3 in September. Dec 31 cut off means some kids turn 3 in Sept-Dec; but other schools have Sept. cut off so all kids are already 3 when school starts. If you wait a year, she'll be 3 years, 9 months when she starts first year of preschool, 4.9 for preK and 5.9 for K. If you apply for Fall 2009, she'll be one year younger than that (2.9, 3.9, 4.9).
