^^^trying again -- I hit the wrong button. Anyway, DS (5) and DD (3) were playing on the structure, but with different groups of kids (in the same area though). DS was doing the slide over and over and over. I noticed a little girl, maybe 3, standing at the top of the slide not going. DS came up behind her and waited. I saw him say something to her. He waited a few more seconds. She was just standing up there, not moving. So he squeezed past her and went down (after waiting over a minute, which I was surprised by really). By the time he was at the bottom, some mom was running toward him, screeching about how he almost pushed her daughter off the slide. So I get up as he's pointing me out (she was screeching, "where's your babysitter, where's your grownup??!!") and he looked totally freaked out. As I'm walking over to her, I look back to check on DD. I get to her and the woman just freaks out on me about how I'm not watching my kids and how my son just trampled over her "MUCH SMALLER" dd to get down the slide and what was I going to do about it. The mom looked kind of crazy, and my son was getting scared. What would you have done? [ Reply | More ]

That's crazy. I'm not sure what I would have done. I probably would have calmly stated that you saw the whole thing and he waited for her to go, and she didn't. [ Reply | More ]

OP: that's what I did. I said, "that's not what I just saw." and she kept shrieking at me about how I'm not watching my kids and that my son is a bully. it was so weird I asked her if she was sure she was talking about the right kid. I finally told her I was going to walk away from her because she was irrational. I had to explain to my son (and then my DD) how some mommies just get a little crazy sometimes, LOL. [ Reply | More ]

I would have said "I saw the whole thing and your child never looked like she was in danger to me. I'm sorry if what my son did frightened you but I think everything is ok." [ Reply | More ]

OP: now that we're home and the dust is settling, I'm getting more and more angry about this! How DARE some other mother yell at my son!! And believe me, there are times I don't see what happens because I am tracking 2 at all times and they never play together. What kills me is that if I hadn't happened to have seen it, I think my first reaction would have been to have ds apologize to her dd. [ Reply | More ]

well - in all honesty, if slide was very high then maybe it wasn't the safest thing for him to go around her. not that i think the mom was right at all. but, it wouldn't have killed him to apologize for that. [ Reply | More ]

np: if the mom is so hepped up and helicoptery as all that, then why wasn't she on her dd to not block the slide? [ Reply | More ]

or: like i said, i don't think the mom was right. however, it doesn't hurt to teach your kids playground safety, even if the other kid is being annoying. just pointing out to op that had she erroneously made her kid apologize, it's not like he would have been apologizing to a kid who smacked him around or something. You're right. I'm trying to get mine to say "excuse me" or "pardon me" when they need to go by. But on the flip side, crazy micromanaging, freaked out parents at the park make me pretty nuts. [ Reply | More ]

If I saw the last part of what happened I would have been p'od too. I think you are overreacting although it is shocking when someone gets confrontational like that. [ Reply | More ]
