I'm looking for a college counselor in NYC. Have a very bright and high-achieving ds who because of some attentional issues attends a high school that is OK but not great for him educationally. His grades and scores are terrific, but his classes are not challenging enough for him, no AP courses, etc. We are doing all we can to enrich him outside of school, but I'm trying to figure out what I can do to make him attractive to colleges. Are you saying that your kid is going to a school that offers no AP? What about IB? That must be a horrible school, not just OK. [ Reply | More ]

I'm out of the loop, but I got a scholarship to take classes at a college based on my PSAT scores. Taking college courses in an area that interests him will show he can do this. The summer would have been a great time, but he can also look into weekends. If he has good scores and shows leadership that helps. GL and you can't get in somewhere if you don't apply. Thanks for your helpful advice! He is actually taking a college course over the summer, but I hadn't thought about during the year. It's a great idea. [ Reply | More ]
