Should I be seriously worried? My 4 yo dd likes to close her door and play with her dolls. Yesterday she told me that the reason she closes teh door is because she likes to poke them in the eye and hit them and she doesn't want anyone to see. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I wouldn't worry too much, my dc is 5 and can get pretty aggressive, and values her privacy. It's also very clear that she avoids me when she knows she's doing something wrong - she runs into the bedroom and slams the door, or hides; she admits when she's lied to me; etc. I wouldn't worry about the acting out, specifically, but I would address it with her and ask her why she's so angry. Perfectly fine. She is learning to manage her aggressive impulses. All of us have them. Better to acknowledge them and learn to manage them than to pretend they don't exist. Don't shame her for them (not saying you have). The only think I would wonder is if there is something IRL that is bringing these to the fore now - although 3-4 is the age for these issues to arise in general. [ Reply | More

My dd started to close her door at that age - usually because she was up to something. I told her closing her door is not allowed. You should talk to her more about why she wants to hit her dolls - and why she doesn't want anyone to see. She is doing something that she is uncomfortable with so you should probe on why. Do you take her into a room and close the door for spankings? [ Reply | More
