OK, let me repost! Poll: which private school in NYC has the best Head of School (or Head Master or Head Mistress)? Which has the best DOA? And likewise, the worst for both? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Worst? DOA at Spence was cold. DOA at Brearley seemed irrelevant. DOA at Trevor seemed nice but flighty. DOA at ECFS seemed chaotic. DOA at Trinity - nobody could hear what she was saying and she doesn't ask anything. [ Reply | More ]

Only heard Heads of School speak to groups, I can't say to that but for DOA's from an interview standpoint: B. Root, T. Cruite, L. Issa. In that order. And yes, I applied to many co-eds but the ss schools had the best DOAs. [ Reply | More ]

Bo is simply amazing. We each have our opinions based on our children's experiences. You cannot discount what he has done to elevate the school's academics and overall excellence. He has brought order to chaos and will be remembered as one of friends' best. He has meant so much to our family personally as well as academically. I don't know of any other head that I could say that about. We are not able to commit to the school financially, and that doesn't seem to matter. [ Reply | More ]

nnnp: I know that he was having affairs with other teachers and also some married teachers at another school. One affair helped in the woman losing her job. I liked the head of school at trevor, calhoun, and trevor. The worst was collegiate. The best DOAs were dalton (yes, I liked babby) and trevor. The worst was ECFS, if for no other reason that they were so disorganized . . . not even sure I met the doa. The "toughest doa was collegiate (although I liked her). [ Reply | More ]

Rita at Fieldston Lower is the best DOA. And I loved the head master at CGPS. I credit him with taking a total bottom of the barrel school and making it a real contender. He is the brains behind the fundraising and capital changes that turned the school around. [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 07.11.08, 11:41 AM Flag

CGPS sells admissions to the highest bidder - that's the core of their capital campaign. I've lived on the same block for 15 years and know a number of teachers at the school. It used to be a low-key school, DCs were polite, and you actually saw them carrying school books. In the last 3 - 5 years, it's become all about the money - DDs wearing Prada and carrying Chanel bags, lines of SUVs to drop off HS students and books are only seen around exams. The teachers I know complain about the attitudes, both of the students and the parents. The Head just shrugs off the problems and tries to create a legacy of buildings (which the community board has gotten tired of - 2 building plans shot down in 4 years). [ Reply | More ]
