Ok, I'm doing a toy clean out. My dd is 4. There are a lot of things I want to get rid of that she just doesn't play with anymore. Is it better to do it while she is at camp or is that too sneaky? I know she will notice eventually that some things are missing. Should I be doing this with her and talking to her about it? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

That depends on your dd. I've done both - went through the toy box with my dcs - less toys were thrown out. And threw stuff out when they weren't home or were asleep - they did notice that things were missing or would say what happened to my so and so - eventually they moved on to something else. what did you say when they asked where the missing toys were? [ Reply | More ]

np I would just dodge the question "I think it must be around her somewhere" or "I haven't seen that in awhile" etc. She forgot about it soon enough [ Reply | More ]

OR - exactly. And sometimes I even help them look for it. They move on eventually - the never had a complete meltdown. [ Reply | More ]

Put it in a box now. When she gets home tell her is she wants to, she can save two from the Goodwill Truck. [ Reply | More ]

We're moving and I just went through this process with 4yo. I did it when he was in the room and gave him a head's up on everything I was giving away. He was cool with 90% of it and I was fine keeping the other 10% that I would have given away. If that process didn't work, I was planning to box up all the things I thought he wouldn't miss and keep them for 2-3 weeks to make sure there wasn't anything he missed. [ Reply | More ]
