Went to Hoboken last night to visit a friend who moved there a few months ago. I had never been there and was completely amazed! Oh my God, it is like another world there! It was so nice, so much nicer than Bklyn. I was shocked. I loved it. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

np; but it always floods whenever it rains. Impossible to park (and that was 15 yrs ago before it was "discovered") [ Reply | More ]

Not really. It floods in one certain part of town only and we live in the uptown area where parking with a resident permit is not a problem at all. There are a lot of bad myths about Hoboken and I like it that way b/c it's getting crowded enough. [ Reply | More ]

It is pretty, of course. It's just that friends from the city will never visit you. [ Reply | More ]

I find this funny. When I moved to Bklyn in the late 1980s, that's exactly what everyone said. [ Reply | More ]

Hoboken was crappy in the 80's, now Brooklyn is over-crowded and too trendy. We need a "new" frontier! [ Reply | More ]

I hate Hoboken. all of the fratboys who couldn't afford Dormandy Court ended up there. You don't get out enough. [ Reply | More ]

I think Hoboken is good in many ways, especially if you work downtown. You can still get more space there. We thought about trying it out when DD was born to save money, but stuck it out in a 1Br in the city for a year and a half. Now I'm glad we stayed b/c there are better public school options than in Hoboken. Also, DH and I work Midtown East - a pain to get to from Hoboken. [ Reply | More ]

if you work on the east side it's a pain to live in hoboken, but if you work downtown it's a breeze, likewise for west side and you get soooo much more for your money than manhattan or bklyn. [ Reply | More ]

Yes, I agree. But my point is that if you switch jobs or have a child that will start K soon, it loses some of it's pluses. [ Reply | More ]

K and elementary schools are pretty good in Hoboken. Especially if you live uptown nearer to the better ones, and/or if you can get into one of the two charter schools. [ Reply | More ]

The biggest secret is the FREE preschool for 3s and 4s. I have a friend who has been sending her dd to preschool a full day program all 5 days a week for free, and she will go again next year. I'm pg. and considering a move there just for that. [ Reply | More ]

Hoboken resident here: i think that program will be abolished soon. It's getting way too overcrowded and not serving the initial population it was set up for. [ Reply | More ]
