Should I wait until the K application process is over before I quit my job? Do schools care of I work or not, or if my job looks good on paper? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Depends. Public schools just care if you have a pulse. [ Reply | More ]

Just my opinion, but unless your job is super cool, I think schools prefer to see SAHMs. [ Reply | More ]

I'm a federal prosecutor . . . not super cool, but it sounds good. [ Reply | More ]

No reason to stick it out for the private school application process. It's not going to win you any points there. [ Reply | More ]

So they don't care? When I was applying DS for preschools I found that my job generated a lot of questions during parent interviews. Maybe it was just curiosity. It would be nice to have the rest of the summer free . . . [ Reply | More ]

Seriously, I have what most people think is a cool job, and I felt it was more of a negative than a positive in the interview process. I really don't think you should stay somewhere you're not happy to look better on paper when the perception may not work out that way anyway... [ Reply | More ]

It's not that I'm not happy, I'm just done working for awhile. I want to be with my DCs. Anyway, thanks to you and the other responders for the input---it has been very helpful. [ Reply | More ]

I think you should keep the job until the apps are in. I think you should just try to take as much vacation this summer as possible. [ Reply | More ]

I think most schools like to see SAHMs because they think they will participate more in the parent/school partnership. [ Reply | More ]

it depends on the school-in my dc's school, we know the families well in classes older and younger than he-it seems like a good cross section. ibers, traders, social workers, teachers, actors, lawyers, architects. it may be helpful, but it isn't going to be a make or break thing for your dc. ITA. I remember one SS girls' school telling me, "We have other mothers who work here, so you won't be alone." Made me realize that I would be in a small minority, which I really hadn't considered for a moment. [ Reply | More ]

I think schools would like this a lot more than another SAHM. They are a dime a dozen. [ Reply | More ]

Do what you want to do - it won't make any difference. I'm a law firm partner and I thought it was a mild positive, but I don't think it was outcome-determinative. Out of curiosity, why are you quitting? [ Reply | More ]

if you want to quit, quit, don't do it based on school. plus, if you aren't working, you will have more time to do the process (which includes stressing over it). [ Reply | More ]

You can quit now or just get fired after you've missed the 1500 hours of work time that you're about to, for interviews and playdates. [ Reply | More ]

You'll need a lot of time off to do the tours and interviews. No idea what schools prefer in terms of employment, though. [ Reply | More ]
