I have a strength training question--I feel like I hear so much conflicting info about this. Is it better, for lean, slim muscle, to do high reps, low weight or minimal reps, weight as high as you can stand? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

in my not so great opinion. when starting out I do high weights, then switch ot low weight/min rep. I do this because I see faster results with high that motivate me [ Reply | More ]

no, the two month I will do high weights. I can see the results then I tone it down to a weight that I feel comfortable with that I can add more and more reps. I think if I just go in thinking not to high weight I sell myself short and end up feeling frustrated that I'm not feeling a burn or seeing results. [ Reply | More ]

I've been reading all about this since I posted this question--it seems universally accepted that you need to use enough weight to cause real, true muscle fatigue-that feeling that you just CAN'T do another rep with good form--within 8-12 reps, to see results--either strength or endurance or tone. To put on muscle mass do low reps high weight. To get lean muscle, do high reps low weight. [ Reply | More ]

okay that's what I thought, but someone told me that's a total myth--that high weight low reps IS going to build lean muscle, not muscle mass. [ Reply | More ]
