Need advice. Have started using an occasional teenage babysitter. She doesn't come form the best home situation etc. She came today very upset and not feeling well. Her mother had taken her cell phone away so she didn't have my number to call and cancel. The morning was pretty much a wash for me ending up taking care of her too (listening, giving advice etc.)She's a nice girl just comes from not so great home life. I felt bad and ended up giving her $20 anyway because she travels along way. I have her scheduled for another time. DH said we don't need the drama right now and to not use her anymore. What would you have done? Would you phase her out? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I would give her a chance, if you like her and she's good with your kids. SOmetimes people have bad days, and it sounds like she could use a good role model if you can provide a bit of that [ Reply | More ]

I pay her by the hour and she really didn't do anything. So I thought the 20 would cover the coming and going? [ Reply | More ]

I see. Well, you didn't say she was only there for a little while, if she'd turned up sick I would have sent her home right away in a cab, with $20 [ Reply | More ]

I don't think that she should have given the full amount, I never give babysitter money when she can't show up. It's not the same as a nanny. I think $20 was nice. [ Reply | More ]

well she came rather than not showing up, which shows a lot of dedication IMO. I would have given her a bit more than a token $20 but that's me [ Reply | More ]
