i know bedtime is supposed to be a very sweet special time with dd, but sometimes i just don't want to deal with reading, etc. I just want her to go to bed so i can read. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

We have a strict routine for our toddler and we can get him into bed in about 20mins including bath, teeth and story. Then we can get on with our evening. [ Reply | More ]

wow. what's the routine. we've had some scope-creep on the reading and songs business where it can take me a good 40 mins just for the books/sleep part. forget about bath and teeth. [ Reply | More ]

Into bathroom. Undress and use toilet while bath is running. In bath wash and then let play for a few mins. Out of bath straight to teeth brushing and I dry him while he is playing with his toothbrush at the sink. Into bedroom diaper and PJs on then one story in the chair. DS switches off the light and gets into bed. In the time my ds is playing in the bath I dunk the baby in there too and get him dressed for bed. [ Reply | More ]

I love reading to my kids, but I understand wanting to have some time alone. We keep it pretty efficient and stick w/ a routine so it doesn't creep up. They get p.j.'s on and wash up (bath if needed) and then downstairs for snack & a story together. Then a race to see who can get upstairs & brush teeth first. DD (2) gets two books and a little bit of a snuggle. DS (6) gets one chapter in a longer book (right now it's Catwings). If I'm doing it by myself w/ the two of them it's about 7-7:30 and we're done.
