HI, I am a SAHM, i was just offered a baby sitting job, 2 little girls would come to my house at 7 am, i would feed them and take them to school at 9 am, pick them up from school at 3pm (I would be driving and using my gas)They would stay at my house until between 5 and 6 every night, I would help them with their homework and feed them dinner. The mother wants me to come up with some sort of salary, what should I ask for a week? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I think I saw your post yesterday (unless the Mom was posting). I would pay $15-$20 per hour for someone to do that for my 2 dcs. Maybe with gas costs on top if they will be high. [ Reply | More ]

I saw that post yesterday too. Is it possible the mom who needs babysitting was the poster? Everyone went beserk on the rates she was looking to pay. I think the consensus is that that amount of money is ridiculous. [ Reply | More ]

depends on how affluent a community you are living in. I's 20-30 hours/week plus gas and breakfast and dinner. $400/week? [ Reply | More ]

So then this woman is trying to rip you off. The discrepancy between her offer and the going rate is so large, don't even think of taking this job. [ Reply | More ]

I agree. If she doesn't value you now, it is just going to get worse. Her situation should have nothing to do with you, it is a business arrangement not a personal one. [ Reply | More ]

my friend lives in Alberston, has the same scenario, kids are 8yrs old, and pays $15 an hour, in her own home, so she supllies the food, and the babysitter doesnt drive them anywhere, walks them to the busstop. [ Reply | More ]

or: i figured as much - she can probably get after school care somewhere for about that much, but she needs to understand that individual care is more expensive. if she provides gas and food, then it's up to you to decide what your time is worth. if you are comfortable doing it for less - say you want/need a little extra money and you're home anyway - then i'd say at least $200-$250 (w her paying gas/food) [ Reply | More ]

that's about $5/hour. no way. as much as your don't realize it, you will be inconvenienced by this. Not to mention the cost of gas, food for snacks, etc. [ Reply | More ]

$150??? That is INSANELY unfair. If you're charging $15 an hour, x 4 hrs a day that's $60 a day--right there that's 300 a week, not to mention what you're going to spend on food feeding them two meals a day. [ Reply | More ]

just a thought: maybe check into how much she'd be paying for aftercare at a school that provides it. we're not in nyc but the ymca provides aftercare at many schools onsite. the kids would def. be better off in someone [ Reply | More ]

One thing to add to the hopper is if you committ to this you have to take her kids to/from school when yours are home sick. That sucks! [ Reply | More ]
