please help me make this decision. i have been a sahm for the last two years with my dd who just turned two (i have worked pt here and there but she has never been left more than 3-4 hours). i am currently looking to start working again. i was thinking pt (4-5 hours) as a tutor and she would go to daycare during that time. i have been offered a ft job at a potential daycare. the pay is low and the hours would be long. i feel like it might be good because would be there with her but i also feel like i am abandoning her for 8 hours a day while i watch someone else's kids. wwyd? Give it a try. If she would be in the same daycare as you and you would see her during the day - it may not be so bad [ Reply | More ]

If you're going to work in daycare try not to use words like "abandon" when thinking about sending your child there. With the cost of daycare, you will probably be better off working fulltime at the dc place (and getting really discounted rate) than tutoring and paying full price for daycare. You will get to see your daughter often and, if you work at the right place (such as Bright Horizons), you will be building valuable experience which you can parlay into a management career in daycare.
