Is the ERB simply the WPPSI–III (Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence ) for kids 3-7, then the WISC (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children) for kids 6-16? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

thanks. this is what i thought but have always wondered why they don't just state that. And hunter just uses the Stanford Binet to be "different" I guess. And OLSAT - well that one I have no idea. [ Reply | More ]

wonder why people don't just buy a copy of the WPPSI to review with their kids before the test? All I hear about is maze books, kumon, sequencing, build blocks, etc. But why not just buy the WPPSI? [ Reply | More ]

I am assuming no one has the cajones to actually try to order it from the harcourt website. Although I bet the pricey consultants have figured out how to get it. [ Reply | More ]

I'm a psychiatrist and occasionally work with kids. I will have no trouble ordering it. I know many friends who have this kind of access also. It just never occured to me until now that the connection was so direct. [ Reply | More ]

hunter is filled with kids of psychologists. MDs are rarely involved in neuropsych testing, and most wouldn't know what an IQ test even looks like. so if someone does, they are actually cheating [ Reply | More ]

This surprises me. Psychiatrists are not trained to conduct psychological testing. Why would you be allowed to buy it? [ Reply | More ]

according to harcourt I am qualified to buy it. [ Reply | More ]

Well, then, I assume your training includes ethical guidelines, which indicate that you should not buy or use the test for purposes other than testing patients. [ Reply | More ]

I would buy the test with the purpose of testing patients, yes. And apply my newfound knowledge toward educating my son. [ Reply | More ]

Newfound? But if you received training at your residency, shouldn't you know the test already? You are either unethical, a liar, or both. And, by the way, if you do use the test to prep your son, it will be pretty apparent. Good night. [ Reply | More ]

A bit slow aren't you. I had some training in residency years ago. Thus, having test in hand would result in newfound knowledge of the intricacies of said test. I did not memorize those many years ago. Unethical, maybe? But if it helps dc get into a good school and have a stronger future, I can live with that transgression quite happily. Sleep well. LOL. Only do this if you can deal with your kid being counselled out. [ Reply | More ]

This is the massive missing point that everyone seems to be missing. If your kid isnt a 99 ERB kid, and is a 70 ERB kid, there are a lot of really good reasons why you shouldnt set them up to fail like this. [ Reply | More ]

actually we have the option of getting training in neuropsych testing in residency (at least in ours we did) so I am qualified to administer the test. Also, the point is not what one actually does, it's what you need to say to buy the WPPSI. You are qualified by their standards and can state you intend to start testing as part of your practice, which would also be a true statment in my case. [ Reply | More ]

This seems a little risky for my taste. Your DC might totally out you during the test which could be bad and reflected in report. Better idea might be to figure out sub-topics and use your experience/training to create fun games, etc. to practice sujbect areas. Also - maybe your friend at Mt. Sinai would have some suggestions of things she/he did with DC. [ Reply | More ]

from what I know the test isn't the exact WPPSI but WPPSI and WISC in combination. They both supposedly make up the ERB together..but I could be wrong. I remember reading (many yrs back) that it isn't the wppsi alone so getting a hold of that test wasnt' going to help [ Reply | More ]

ERB stands for Educational Records Bureau, I think, the company that owns/manufactures the tests. They used to use a host of different tests from the company for school admissions (i.e. not every school wanted the same test), hence, using the name of the company. [ Reply | More ]

There are tests for different age ranges also. ERB administers the CTPs (achievement tests used by many independent schools and also by Hunter to evaluate their teaching effectiveness)and the ISEEs (independent schools entrance exam) for middle and high school admissions. [ Reply | More ]

Here's the bigger question:Do the TT schools still use the results? The PR/SS or is the write up more important? I find that most of the kids from my PS did 98 or 99. And if you can 'gently' prep your dc for this, doesn't it make it obsolete? [ Reply | More ]
