Wouldn't you worry if your 20mo son didn't talk yet. I've been to a speech therapist and she told me to not worry until my son is 2. It's hard when the only actual word he uses is ball, not even mommy or daddy. She said because he's one of the most social babies she's seen, and he rambles on a lot that he's fine. AT 24 months. my ds had less than 10 words, but he communicated effectively by pointing, dragging us, etc. Since he could communicate, he barely qualified for speech therapy. After 6 mos. of play-based therapy 2x/week, he was talking up a storm. Don't worry. Sounds normal to me. [ Reply | More ]

Everyone I know who has a boy told me the same thing and they were right! My DS said "mama" at 20 months, at 24.5 months the flood gates opened and he hasn't shut up since! (he's 2.5 now) So don't worry right now! [ Reply | More ]
