That would be fun! I mostly liked to listen to her on road trips. She would get me so mad that I would stay awake! DH can't stand her though - even for a minute. I thought she was kind of a nice balance to the Oprahization of the country though, where nothing was anyone's fault and we were all victims. It's a toughie (my DH also owns a few stations) but I think that the fact that most of our powerful signals are in the hands of a very small number of entities is very frightening. It came up a bit during the last election when a group of conservativ station owners all got together to play the "Swift Boat" movie and never gave the opportunity for rebuttal. I disagree. i believe that most Americans do not go tomuch trouble to "learn". Sadly, they go to the easiest and most available always, and that is radio. It is free, in your car, in your home, wherever... I could agree with that but my problem is that who gets to decide what is too much of one side or the other? I'm libertarian so I guess I default to freedom in any issue. I worry about giving teh gov't too much power over things like this. That scares me far more than Rupert Murdoch ever could. Besides, nearly everyone has NPR too. That's some balance and if you really listen to the right wing guys, they aren't all saying the same things. They all vary somewhat. Keeps things interesting. I try to listen to all sides to figure out where the truth really is because both sides will out and out lie to you! [ Reply | More

NPR is one station. One underfunded station. Our gov't has given the power already to large conglomerates and media giants. All of the legislation in the last few years has been severly loosened to allow these groups to buy buy and buy and we are the ones who will pay the price. [ Reply | More

I think there are 2 issues here though. 1 is monopoly and what constitutes one. the other is free speech and how you define that. I thnk that NPR should be unfunded and let the people decide through advertising dollars etc, how much $$ it gets. There goes my libertarian side again though. I think eventually, it would probably improve the state of liberal talk radio. Why doesn't that succeed? Why did Air America fail? I don't get it. Seems like there are plenty of liberals out there. Why do they not want to support it? Maybe the get their news somewhere else? [ Reply | More

LOL! I'm not a totally wacky libertarian! I do think certain things should be funded. (roads can be included in that catagory!) But some things are just best left to the private sector. And I get it that the FD is related to the monopoly issue, but it is slightly diff since we are dealing with thoughts, words and ideas instead of widgets. Maybe you are right about the liberals. I will havet o give that some thought. But they are better at organizing things like marches and protests. Just try and get a bunch of conservatives out in the streets for anything! Good luck! wow. Well, when you look back in history and what people (like MLK) stood for, they do actually have more in common in some ways with reps than todays dems. But that's another story altogether! I think the dems did a lot of this to themselves. I think their love relationship with the 60's and anti war to the point that it gets anti america, damaged the public perception of the party.
