OP: I have 3 kids with very different needs. I'll hold it over all their heads when I'm old and gray [ Reply | More ]

yeah, #1 was overly coddled, and you couldn't bear to send him to the wolves by going public, #2 got into anderson so you got to brag, and #3 got shafted. all the money spent on coddled dc, all the ego on the anderson kid and #3 will likely be the most successful of the lot. [ Reply | More ]

NP - I'll have one in private and the other in G&T and this is exactly what I worry about. [ Reply | More ]

actually, #1 missed out on the whole G&T mess because we moved here too late. #2 tested in and #3 has special needs [ Reply | More ]

We had neighbors that were doing that - oldest was at private HS (had been in public K-8), middle DC was at Delta, youngest was at Hunter. The age spread was enough that the oldest was getting himself to/from school and Mom did one drop-off and Dad did the other one. [ Reply | More ]

the MS delta kid needed to be dropped off? do kids travel alone by that age? [ Reply | More ]

np--I think it varies by school and perhaps between public and private. Only a few 6th graders at my dc's school (private) travel to school by themselves. [ Reply | More ]

it also depends on distance and methods of transportation - DCs who can walk to school will go on their own sooner than DCs who have to take the subway [ Reply | More ]

there was a stretch when the oldest was in middle school (and getting himself there) and the two younger ones needed to be taken to two different elementary schools. [ Reply | More ]
