Divorce settlements aren't supposed to be punishment or revenge. They should be about dividing the marital assets fairly and providing for the children. In this case, he earned all the money and they aren't in a communal property state. She should get child support and a bit to tide her over until she gets a job. Pain and suffering settlements are not intended to punish the guilty. If it were, our legal system wouldn't allow insurance to cover these payments. They are intended to compensate the wronged party.
