If your dc from a daycare gets 98 or 99, has non-pita parents, dc is well socialized and aces school visit, and school report is good, then the odds for that dc to get into TT is very good. Not any worse than from so called TT prek's - in fact, dc will face less competition from within. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

This is naive. Lots of kids with 99s or 98s only get second or even third tier accepts, no matter where they come from. And sometimes none, and nothing is wrong with the dc. Just late spring birthday may well do it. [ Reply | More ]

my point is I would not tell anyone that their odds of getting dc into TT private are very good, daycare or TT preK. Unless there is something special the dc has it is still a huge crapshoot. [ Reply | More ]

I think it is. 99dc with non-pita parents and dc who aced school visit and good school report with early birthday has a good chance. A kid like that not getting into any TT - there are those, but for most kids in that situation, good chance. [ Reply | More ]

If you have a boy, there are 4 TT schools to apply to. Trinity is close to lost cause IMO, so that leaves you with 3. If you don't want your ds to commute to the Bronx at the ripe age of 5, you are left with 2. Also, very few kids ace the school visit, odds are your 99 kid will do fine but not 'ace' it if by acing you mean totally stand out above all the other kids. If ds really showed star quality and stood out, then Collegiate or Dalton would probably take him, but really, only handful of kids do. A bit easier situation for girl as there are more spots but still hard. [ Reply | More ]

You are right. I have a dd and was thinking of girls. But if you count K-8 as TTs for boys' schools, then same odds. St B and Buckley are great schools, just not to 12th grade. [ Reply | More ]

When are you people going to stop promoting this BS myth that there are 99s out there w/out serious issues that get rejected ! I have worked in admissions at one of the most competitive schools in the city and believe me 99x3 are few and far between this is a group of bitter women who lied about their dcs scores trying to create this myth so that people do not look on their children badly. Very very sad. [ Reply | More ]

Yes, very few dcs who score 99x3 and have decent play date are rejected anywhere. That's right, anywhere. Two UB myths: no one gets in everywhere or into more than three schools and SO even at the 99x3 level are rampant. Not true on both counts. [ Reply | More ]

my dc with that score did well in the process, but of the 3 TT where we applied, he was accepted at one, wl at one, and rejected at one. No idea why the outright rejection. [ Reply | More ]

Chances are the WL would have turned into an accept if you had pressed the issue and the one rejection could have been a clash of philosophy btw you and the interviewer during process or was a casualty of some of the peculiar rejects of high scorers with great play dates that do occur each year. Not in large number but they do happen. I am sure you are very happy with your choice. [ Reply | More ]

yes, we are happy, but also feel lucky. In retrospect, it probably was a philosophy clash at the rejected school. I don't think the wl, however, would have turned to an accept . . . as the wl was trinity, which felt impossible from the beginning. [ Reply | More ]

And fewer than 50 do. Think about it. You are a competitive mom and your dc who you think is a genius scores in the 70s or 80s. Do you tell your friends that dc scored badly? No. or do You apply dc everywhere and then when the rejections come in you claim it was in the high 90s or 99 and blame the system for a shutout. Then you come on UB which is the temp taker for these issues and spread this rumor to support your story. Mothers will do anything to protect the image of their child. I know, I work in admissions! I hear this a lot from trusting people, unless you sat there and opened the score results with them you really don't know what your friends dc scored Furthermore, I would never say a dc who did not score in the 90s was average or weak minded but a 99x3 is never almost rarely a mistake. Those that score that level did not have a good day they just are that level. [ Reply | More ]

What system is perfect? None. But is this system far more fair than people on tis board with an agenda make it out to be? Yes. Bottom line, not everyone can have a brilliant and high scoring child and believe or not, not everyone does. It is not that difficult to choose from the selection of applicants but it is in the applicants best interest to make it seem like it is a flawed system where brilliants children are rejected everyday. But its not. In my years, and granted it is only five years, but in those years I have seen only a handful of qualified engaging dcs rejected from our tt and the circumstances surrounding those were peculiar. I don't understand it, people should take heart in what I am saying which is truthful and yet there are so many more people on this board with an agenda that they all fight me. It is fairly obvious as to why. [ Reply | More ]

Mine was rejected from some and accepted at others. I know very few dc who had more than two or three accepts. So, some must fall through the cracks. I do think you are right that people go off the deep end with this & there are people who only want TT and so do not apply very broadly. [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 07.08.08, 04:25 PM Flag

Yes, two or three accepts is standard. What you read on this site is that dcs either get one school only or are shut out. Not the case. There are several dcs each year who get in almost everywhere (not a lot but a decent number) but this idea that dcs are given only one slot and that there is a large SO number is just crazy ladies pushing agendas. Take heart, the people around you may be nuts but the process is far less so. Good luck to you! [ Reply | More ]
