Dc is attending a TT private and my friend said my dc should be a doctor something when dc grows up. I said if I had such a choice (to make dc do what I want - which is not gonna happen of course), I'd like dc to do what I'm doing. DF said it'd be a waste of TT education. Oh well. Education is never a waste - what do you do that "DF" objects to so much? [ Reply | More ]

I am a counselor. Work part time and I think it's great to control my own hours, as a mom, and my dd (if she has kids of her own some day) might also like a career that is family friendly. [ Reply | More ]

I think that is great & wish I had a job with flexible hours - df is being absurd. [ Reply | More ]

Thanks. The thing is I used to have a very tough career pre-dc that required lots of travel and nights and wkends. After I had my dc, I realized I never factored in raising a family when considering a career in college. I wished I had factored that in bec I had to switch my career. [ Reply | More ]

I don't know if society will be very diff in 20 yrs but I'd like my ds (if I had any) to be able to raise a family on his income alone if his dw wanted to sah or work p/t to raise kids - just my wish and of course, ds could end up being sahd or p/t or whatever, but.. [ Reply | More ]

why not want your son to have the option to SAH or work p/t? persoanlly i'd ratehr see a family with 2 parents working p/t than one at home and one bringing home the bacon [ Reply | More ]

If I had a son, it'd be cool if he could work p/t or sah. But I think it's more likely his wife will end up being that - realistically - especially if dw has a tough postpartum recovery and has medical conditions related to PG/childbirth or whatever. Of course, it's more likely that both ds and dw might work f/t, but. [ Reply | More ]

those likelihoods are real but small. hey, they might adopt and nobody wil have any recovery time. If we keep telling our sons that they ahve to work adn our daughters that it is good to stay home, nothing will change. [ Reply | More ]

I want my dd to work, but it'd be better if she could have the option of working p/t. Of course, if I had a son, I wish he could have that option, too, but he can't do certain biological things, so better be safe than sorry. [ Reply | More ]

why are you not offering ds the support if he wants to work PT and raise his family? [ Reply | More ]

I would support him and he'd be lucky to have money to do so or have a wohm who can support that. Are you kidding? Who wants to work if they don't have to? [ Reply | More ]
