99th percentile is the highest (no 100th percentile), but the total scaled score is above 100. In fact, if total raw/scaled score is below 100, it's really low percentile wise. [ Reply | More ]

I don't think it's "really low" but probably below 90. Highest possible scaled score is 152. [ Reply | More ]

not national average...the percentiles are assigned on a normed basis. [ Reply | More ]

The presumption is that the normative group's results reflect the national average. The same way that in studies where IQs from different countries are compared, the sample groups from each nation are presumed to reflect the country's average IQ. [ Reply | More ]

Yes, and it is a very good assumption that this is the case because the ERB is taken nationwide. [ Reply | More ]

which is irrelevant to the percentile given. 5 kids in Peoria could take it and they would still get ge the same percentiles as if 500 kids mostly based in NYC took it, or it it was only given to your kid and 20 students from a special needs class in Florida. Not a national average and it doesn't matter who takes it in a given year. [ Reply | More ]

I am not sure what you are trying to say. Are you saying that if a kid here in the US takes the ERB scores in the 50th percentile she did not score the nationwide average for her age/gender/whatever else you want to norm for? What are you trying to explain? [ Reply | More ]

She's trying to split hairs so she won't have to admit she misspoke. The normative group used for generating the percentile ranges is based on a nationwide sample that takes the test before it's rolled out for the general population. It's a statistically safe assumption that the national numbers are the same as the normative group's numbers. [ Reply | More ]

My example is relevant because in every study of that kind, you will see the researchers talking about the "national average" for each country's IQ. They're getting those national averages from a sample of people taking the test, just as the norms are based on a sample. Or are you trying to argue that researchers go to other countries and test every person there?? [ Reply | More ]

whatcha talking about? the ERB scores are normed nationally. So it still stands: the 50-percentile is the national average. [ Reply | More ]

a norm is not a national average.....a few children take the test as a sample. Children are given percentiles based on the results as to how the national population (based on the norm sample) might have been expected to perform. A national average would be if dcs percentiles were given based on every kid who took the test in certain time period [ Reply | More ]

where would you see the raw/scaled of 152? Is it the gray bars on graph? It doesn't have numbers attached to them past 99. A friend told me her dd got a 113, and I'm thrilled for her, but can't see anywhere it would be written over a 99. Are the final sheets different when it's over 99? [ Reply | More ]

now I'm really confused. Sitting here w/my dd's and it says sum of scaled: 133 and PR 99,99,99 Maybe my friend read me the SS instead of the PR- I guess I would have failed this test, I can't even figure out the results! [ Reply | More ]

thank you for your help. So the 133 SS that I see on mine was out of 152? That makes sense, although this entire test baffles me completely! Do the TT schools really care about the ERB's anymore? Is the write up more important than the ranking? [ Reply | More ]
