actually - they don't truly save you $ right now. but i agree that they are better for the environment. we ended up buying the regular highlander after much debate. we just couldn't afford the hybrid. but we're not rich - we also couldn't afford leather seats. [ Reply | More

The amount of money and energy it takes to build your new Prius is greater than what the Prius saves. Granted, if you are buying a new car either way, get a hybrid (or some other greener option -- hybrids are not always a huge saver) but replacing every used car with a brand new Prius would be very harmful to the environment. Maybe safety? My prius is a bit on the light side and maybe the steel is not that hefty ... the tiniest brush against a parking garage column dented it to the tune of a $600 repair; also maybe if you drive it mainly in the city and don't put many miles on it. [ Reply | More
