Yes, lights out and head on desk. Almost all K classes have this. Some kids really do fall asleep. [ Reply | More ]

No head on the desk at our school, they rest on the rug. 20 minutes, and most kids read quietly or just look at the books. [ Reply | More ]

Us too but I guess if your child was either thrown out or rejected from the school you might think it sucks too. [ Reply | More ]

they have a choice time where they get to choose their own activity in the classroom (e.g. read, draw, etc.) [ Reply | More ]

why do you have to generalize? In DD's preschool there were at least 5 out of ten kids who did not need the nap anymore. It all depends on the child. [ Reply | More ]

Yes, PS 183. We were asked to provide rest mats (yoga mats or blankets) in Sept. It was phased out later in the year (maybe after Spring Break). [ Reply | More ]

PS 116 is the same. Rest period at the beginning of the year. I think it was phased out in February. [ Reply | More ]

Rest period in Kindergarten? Not in a NYC public school! Only in Pre-K. I teach in a NYC public school. [ Reply | More ]

dd had a rest period for the first half of k at a NYC public school -- was phased out mid-year, i think. [ Reply | More ]

this is standard. There should be rest period until all kids turn 5 (which should happen by year-end). [ Reply | More ]

I thought rest time was required in NYC through age 5 (hence it might end mid K year--Dec. 31). Let me try to find the regulation. [ Reply | More ]

Just because there is a regulation doesn't mean it happens! [ Reply | More ]

PS 40 and I think they had rest for the first few months and then phased it out and sent the mats home. Our DD came from a full day 4's class (where I can't remember if they had rest all year), but lots of kids were just starting school, or coming from the very short Pre-K class. [ Reply | More ]
