A friend of mine's son (8 month sold) died a few months ago. It was a horrible, tragic thing that happened. I was in touch with her after it happened. I do not live in the same city as her. (I used to.) She is a private person, and we were never very close (i.e., we never really talked about problems, etc...we usually saw each other socially with our husbands). I want to get back in touch with her and feel bad that I haven't for the last few months. I don't know what to say. I don't want to bring up her son's death whenever I contact her (I don't think she would want this) but I don't want to pretend like all is ok either. I know through other friends that she is still (obvioulsy) having a terrible time. Can anyone give me some advice on what to say to her? This is the first time I've ever dealth with this situation and I just cry when I think about what she is going through. I am pretty emotional in general and I don't want to show her that all the time because I think it would be so unhelpful for her. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Can you just call her and leave her a message saying you've been thinking about her and want to reach out? This way, if she doesnt feel like talking, she doesnt really have to, but she knows youre open to her [ Reply | More

Yes, that is what I was thinking of doing...but what if she answers or when she calls me back, how do I bring this all up? Should I jsut be honest and say that I think about her all the time but don't know what to say? [ Reply | More

I think thats ok. IF you do speak to her youwill obviously ask her how she's been and just go from there. Every day you wait makes it harder and more awkward. Im sure she would appreciate it if you got in touch with her. [ Reply | More
