Tell me about the ERB. Want to sign up DC to take it in August. Going to do it at a center as I DC doesn't really have stranger anxiety and kind of on the fence about private schools so would like to know the score before investing so much time and energy. How long is the test? Is it filling in bubbles? DC have to write name, draw pictures? Totally clueless. Any BTDT moms care to weigh in? TIA! [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

the test iabout an hour and it is one one one...not a standardized bubble test. Much of it is oral, althought ere are secitons with blocks and a section with a pencil and transcribing ( coresponding shapes and shapes). No pictures or names, but dc will likely be asked to do so at private schools visits. [ Reply | More ]

Thanks. Any tips as to what to tell DC before they go in? I thought, "You are going to meet with someone who knows your teachers at school. Listen to them and answer their questions so they can tell your teachers all about what you've been doing this summer. If you do as they ask, we'll go get icecream" ;) [ Reply | More ]

the website gives you some exact words. BTW, I truly think that you shoudl have dc tested at his or her school if the test is offered there. [ Reply | More ]

I hear you, but I want to know the score before starting this mess. Director said it could be late October before DC is tested. DC is pretty great in stranger situations. That being said, private school will be a financial burden, and I'm willing to let the winds of fate lead me in that direction. Not wanting to game the test, etc. If DC scores really well, we will take it as a sign to move forward. [ Reply | More ]

That is not always the best thing to do. Some kids don't like to miss anything in their classroom, so they speed through it to get back [ Reply | More ]

np--The danger in mentioning a reward is that your child may hurry through the test to get ice cream (or whatever). My understanding is that the test is given in sections and each section has questions that get increasingly harder. (I think the tester stops when the child can no longer answer questions in that section.) Your child should work as hard as he/she can in answering questions. [ Reply | More ]
