4.2 yo just spent first day at a new day camp. Last night he told us we could just drop him off he'd be fine (we stayed about an hour) - tonight he asked if we could go early and have our breakfast there. He just called me to his room (11pm) and told me he doesn't want to go back because he's scared but won't tell me of what. He said he planned to cry again (he did about an hour after we left and then fell asleep for 2 hrs there, which he never does ordinarily. No sign of illness. He's a seasoned preschooler, though he doesn't know any of the children here yet. Any suggestions? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

give it another day or two. my 4 yo didn't like the first day of camp and didn't want to go back; she was a little better after the 2d day, by the time I picked her up after the 4th day she was loving it. sometimes it just takes a little time to feel comfortable. [ Reply | More ]

poor guy. i think he is trying to be brave for you but unable to do it. My guess is that nothing is "wrong" he just is working it out right now and you should be supportive and spend more time and really impress upon the staff that you need them to help him make friends. Give him a buddy that sort of thing. [ Reply | More ]
