For those who have a calm house, if DC hits sibling, how do you respond? I was noticeably angry today when this happened in my house, picked up 4 yo and carried her to her room for a time out. She was kicking and screaming and the tone of my voice made it even worse and she started shouting back. I also hear her talk to my DS as if she is imitating me and I do not like the way it sounds!! it's so irritating when older one hits the younger one. i'm hoping things will be better when younger one can defend himself. i think dd will stop hitting him at that pt. [ Reply | More ]

I used to be a nursery school teacher and the stern, but not yelling, voice is second-nature to me. I say: "You may NOT hit another person. That is the rule in our house. Ask her if she is okay. Find out what would make her feel better." It takes practice, but it works! [ Reply | More ]
