My brother and sister-in-law (not married, actual brother and sister) are coming to visit. They bought their tickets in April and told us they planned to stay in a hotel in Manhattan (we are in Brooklyn Heights). Now they have changed their minds and are "too broke" to pay for a hotel so they decided they will stay with us. We have no room for 6 people and when we told them this and offered to pay for a sublet or hotel, they refused, saying they don't want us to spend money for them. They bought Yankees tickets last night, totaling $1250. Any mantras to get me calm about this? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

This always happened with my BIL and his girlfriend. We recently moved to the burbs, and I was bitching on here how they were complaining how inconvenient it was for them to visit NYC now (we are an hour's drive outside NYC). Umm, pay for a hotel in-freaking-stead! [ Reply | More ]

op- That is really rude! You let them stay in your home and they aren't there to see you, just the city? Hey, I found a $25 a night hostel in Williamsburg, you should tell them to stay there! [ Reply | More ]

LOL. I paid them back by letting the kids wake them at 7am every morning - they SO wanted to spend time with their uncle (and the uncle was out every day sightseeing, etc). [ Reply | More ]
