Need advice...feel like i've screwed up on a bunch of toddler stuff: 2.5yo comes into our room each night between 1am and 3am, and we just throw him into bed w/us. He also still has a pacifier, which I've limited to naps and bedtime. He seems ready for potty training, but I need to get him out of our bed 1st - such a bad habit we started. Any BTDT? How did you break these habits?? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

when he comes in simply turn him around and put back into his own bed. [ Reply | More ]

no child ever started K with a paci, your teen would rather die than sleep in your bed and I've yet to see a college kid in diapers - you are doing fine :) [ Reply | More ]

excellent advice. I was getting no sleep at all because ds at 2 would sometimes wake up for hours in the middle of the night and I thought I should not bring him back to bed with me. I finally started doing that, he would fall asleep immediately. When he gave up his nap at 2.9, he started sleeping through the night in his own bed and rarely askes to come to mine. [ Reply | More ]

ita...when you look at the big picture, these things really don't matter in the long run [ Reply | More ]

I'm not seeing any "screw ups" here. Just keep being a loving mom. The rest will work itself out. [ Reply | More ]

What do you really want to do? If you don't mind him in bed w/ you then I wouldn't stress. But if you prefer it otherwise just walk him back to his bed each time--no talking or making it interesting in any way. If you want to get rid of the paci at some point, just do the paci fairy. And I don't think the potty training & bed thing are related at all. [ Reply | More ]

Thanks! You all made me feel better. I guess when he starts potty training, I don't want him to have accidents in our bed, which is why I want him in his own bed and not in ours! [ Reply | More ]

Except for the binky you are doing fine. What the hell were you thinking giving him a pacifier in the first place? [ Reply | More ]

not true at all. My kids took long to give up pacis (until three though in bed at night only) but never replaced it with a thumb. [ Reply | More ]

but there is no guarantee that this will not happen. Just like all my kids never got a paci and never used a thumb. It can very well happen that the child finds the thumb after the pacifier was taken away. [ Reply | More ]
