We do not sit our 9 mo down to watch tv, but it seems impossible to avoid her watching tv entirely -- want to turn the news on some point in the day, see the weather report, or when we visit other people, would be rude to insist that they do turn off tv. OP: Sorry, if I was not clear, I would never ask anyone else to turn off their tv and no, I don't think her head is going to melt from watching too much tv, BUT I have a lot of friends whose kids watch a lot of tv, and I do think in certain instances, it has affected the kids negatively -- and it is hard to spend a lot of time with them if you want to avoid tv. I was just interested in hearing how people negotiate being reasonable about this, because it has become problematic. [ Reply | More

our 8 mo watches tv. there i said it. we always have it on in the evening for us, and we watch some noggin/sesame street in the morning. I watched plenty of tv when I was young and i dont think i had any adverse effects [ Reply | More

oh please. I'm 40 yr old and everyone I know watched TV when they were very small. Never an issue and they are all very successful. We don't plop our kids in front of the tv for 8hrs but tv isn't bad [ Reply | More

My dc was born in November - Ice Skating Nationals are in march - so db was 4 months old and loved watching the men skate (it was the black suit on the white ice). Has an IQ of 140 now. So all is well :) IF it REALLY BOTHERS YOU, just put db in a bouncy seat turned away from the tv. [ Reply | More
