I am trying to tolerate my ILs now that I have db, but they are so tedious. MIL's friend came to visit last week. DB is 3 weeks old. We didn't mention the visit to MIL (who was on vacation) and she called from vacay to say she was "mortified" that her friend told her she'd visited us before we told MIL. Now MIL wants us to come visit with new baby and I just don't want to go. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Don't go. You have a small baby and you just want to settle in to your own routines not go rushing about. Just say no! [ Reply | More ]

Don't go down the road of lying. Just have dh handle it and tell her that you aren't ready for another extended visit and that you would like to start establishing your routine. We had a very similar thing happen with my ILs. It was awful and awkward at the time, but 2 yrs later, I can see that it was the best thing we could have done to establish boundaries as new parents.
