I have a DD going into 4th grade. We moved to NYC too late for applications, etc. and because of her December bday she was placed in 1st grade. Public school has not been good for her for so many reasons. When is the next entry point into privates, and if we apply for 5th or 6th grade what will they do about her late birthday? I would hate for her to repeat a grade but I would also hate for her to be in middle school with boys 1.5 or more years older than she is. WWYD? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Some spots open in sixth, so you'd apply in fifth. However, I would join parents league and call the schools beginning in August - you may be able to apply out this year - people do move. GL [ Reply | More ]

Sixth grade is a reasonably big entry point, you can try for fifth but there are definitely a lot more spots for 6th, but also more applicants. Some schools will still give you an option to repeat, though generally they don't require it for 6th (some do for lower grades transfer). [ Reply | More ]
