Guess what, for the truly gifted and smart dcs there is no such thing as a 'bad test day'. Some of your average dcs scored above what their intelligence is because it was a good day. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Dc got 99 on SB and ERB but I know there are smarter kids who did not get high scores. There are kids who started reading at 1.5yo and figured out principles of multiplications on their own while looking at bathroom mats with dots or whatever but they didn't do well on the test. But I do know most gripes on UB is simple whining. [ Reply | More ]

I read at 1.5 and did complex math at 4 and scored 99x3 but I am not gifted by a long shot [ Reply | More ]

I beg to differ. Giftedness is a term people agreed to use for people with intellectual capacity that is higher than most. top 1% is not a genius but certainly gifted. It's just a technical term. [ Reply | More ]

My IQ is (was tested at) 150. Compared to national average this is considered highly intelligence but on the cusp (the far cusp) of gifted. It seems clear to me that intelligence is genetic, my two siblings and both parents are also in that range and all scored 99x3 but again we are not gifted. I don't think many people realize what gifted truly is, it isn't scoring high on an ERB test [ Reply | More ]

IQ of 150 is by definition gifted. It's, again, a term that scholars in the field agreed to use. NOT genius, again, just gifted. I don't know why you have an issue with this. [ Reply | More ]

And one with that IQ can be a member of MENSA [ Reply | More ]

MENSA is silliness. Don't have an issue just pointing out how rare a genius is to these women who all think a 99 means their dc is a genius and those who did not score 99 are not. It is all just silly. [ Reply | More ]

np. Giftedness and genius are NOT the same thing, idiot. Get that through your skull. I, for one, have no trouble believing you're not gifted. [ Reply | More ]

np, and IQ of 150 is gifted. No matter what you think. It's just a technical term. You are gifted. So, nah nah, nah nah nah! [ Reply | More ]

np. You know what? You're absolutely right. You're not very bright, let alone gifted. [ Reply | More ]

I posted below to the obnoxious OP whining about the superior 99s and the inferior 99s. I said my 99 was, as far as I can tell, not gifted, and pretty normal. BUT she did test 99 on ERB and SB also. FWIW. [ Reply | More ]

My dc is not "superior" 99, but I know there are people who are 4 or 5 standard deviations above the norm. 99.999th percentile people are very different from 99.1th percentile people when tested accurately. [ Reply | More ]

Why do you care though? I only had dd tested because of the process. I have no interest in how gifted or how accurate or who's smarter than who. It was simply an application process, nothing else. [ Reply | More ]

Well, I was relieved that dc wasn't the high end 99 kid because those kids' education needs are very different and is much harder to find an appropriate school (many homeschool). I got dc tested for school admission but it was also to learn something about dc also. To see if there was any learning issue (LD or other)... [ Reply | More ]

You can't really be sure exactly what his needs are and how smart he is from an olsat given by the a tester engaged in that manner. He could still be 99.99! And really, the IQ test is very faulty. It's almost a random test of intelligence. If you look at subtests you can tell more than one big number anyway. [ Reply | More ]

Well, it can tell a lot of info. Probably more accurate if tested at an older age but still, 99 tells me dc is not dumb at least (though many smart kids test lower). [ Reply | More ]

ITD. We were lucky, 98 SB, 99 ERB, 95 OLSAT, but I know of gifted DCs who refused to cooperate and got scores in the 60s. [ Reply | More ]

ITA!!! My son is smart, but I would never have guessed he'd score 99 -- which he did, and we're going to NEST. We got SO lucky because on any other day he may have scored much much lower. [ Reply | More ]
