They are in denial about their kids' problems. They are in denial about how difficult they themselves are. They don't realize other parents have a different perspective but insist their way is the high way. [ Reply | More ]

you know, I really cannot stand smug stupid people. of course there are people like this who don't get in, but there are plenty who do. in fact, preschool is like some mommy micro universe and ridiculous clique. I would be the first to admit that I hated the pressure to conform, never question the wisdom of the preschool, always smile and pretend to be a good citizen. blech! my dc is headed to hunter, and I am so glad to be done with the private school world, and all the judgements about who is in and who is out. your post reeks of this ridiculous world. glad to be done with you. oh yeah, you would certainly classify me as a pita if you knew how i really felt, but luckily, I was able to play the game for the duration. yes, but the difference in public school is that you don't have to play along anymore. I will be nice because I am nice. But I won't feel like my dc's future is riding on psd liking me, or the cronies at the preschool approving of how I discipline my dc. so happy to be out of there, and entering a place that cannot have that power over me ever again! Geez, your prek sounds like hell. But I don't think PITA is = unpopular. PITA is at publics as well and it's not about being in the clique or not. It's about respecting others, seeing beyond your own needs (though one can advocate for one's child), and just being civil. [ Reply | More ]

well, I know for a fact that people were classified as PITAs who were all the good things you mentioned. they did not fit in, or their kid pushed someone, or some other such thing. was like the salem witch trials. [ Reply | More ]

np: She doesn't really. She may not be popular, but there are plenty of parents that are just never around for anything and their kids do just fine. Many teachers actually prefer that. [ Reply | More ]

PITA parents are the ones (at least in public school) that keep to create fuss. Always try to grab the teacher at pick up and monopolize them to discuss one thing or another. Come to PTA meetings to complain about one thing or another, yet never offer to volunteer to make things better. Public PITA parents are not PITAs because they don't fit with the popular crowd. Actually, in our public, the parents who may be popular become class parents just so they can grab the teacher at every turn. they basically use it as an opportunity to monopolize the teachers. [ Reply | More ]

Yes but the teachers hate that, so they don't become popular doing this. And other parents will hate it too if they find out class parent is not being fair. [ Reply | More ]

Here's a new spin, from someone from the west coast originally. And I do love New York. But NYers seem to be PITAs. Having grown up out west, I'm shocked at what is considered "normal" parent behavior here. Call it "helicopter" call it "engaged parenting", whatever. It comes off as being a painintheass! And they're *everywhere* in this town. [ Reply | More ]
