Are DR.'s still circumcising little boys, besides in the Jewsih Community? Having a boy in August, I thought everyone still did this. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

even if dr's are, have a mohel do it (if you have to do it at all). SO much more humane when a mohel does it and they'll do it for non-Jewish babies. [ Reply | More ]

waiting some time after the birth, letting baby gain back some weight, letting baby metabolize bfing antibodies, baby is held by a parent during the procedure. It's just much much more humane. [ Reply | More ]

Dr. Eric Diamond is a doctor and a mohel. See if you can get him to do the circumcision. I think he'll do it even if it's not a Bris because he's a urologist. I'm pretty sure he's a pediatric urologist and they do circumcisions anyway. Baby doesn't cry... he uses anesthesia on the baby. He uses a cream that makes it so they don't feel anything. Mohels that aren't doctors can't use that. Only doctors can, so it's best to get a mohel that's also a doctor. [ Reply | More ]

I figure ny husband can hae this major decision, because he is male and probably knows more about the subject than me. If it were a female thing, then I'd choose. I learned to pick my battles. [ Reply | More ]

My dh was 100% sure he wanted to circ when I was first pg, but when I actually made him read about it, he totally changed his mind. Any informed person would (at least if they have no religious impetus) [ Reply | More ]

Any informed person would still need to consider his own personal preference: the data is decidedly mixed. [ Reply | More ]

my husband has never researched anything in his life, lol. Yes, he has a penis - but I knew much more about circ than he did. We were lucky that we agreed, but just having a penis doesn't mean much. [ Reply | More ]

but being in a boys locker room might give him an idea...my husband said they used to call boys that were not circumcised "hooded monsters". [ Reply | More ]

whatever. So archaic. These days a large percentage of boys are not circed, so they are not the tiny minority any longer. [ Reply | More ]

True enough, but it's naive to think no one notices. In my (small, private) high school, there was one uncircumcised boy and everyone knew who it was...sort of a weird thing to be famous for. [ Reply | More ]

I wouldn't let my husband have more of a vote than me about something that affects OUR newborn. Just because he has a dick and the baby does too, it makes his opinion all-powerful?? [ Reply | More ]

well how do you compromise on that, it's very important to DH, it's not so much of an issue for me, people must decide what to do. You think I'm going to be fighting for this when it is not a major issue for me. All the poeple I know with boys have done it, DH wants it done, why would I argue it? If we were arguing over a C-Section vs Natural Birth, or something I truly had an issue with then it would be different. [ Reply | More ]

I see this over and over. DH's want it done to DS's -because it normalizes circumcision for the husband. It makes it "normal", -AS IF. Tell DH it is where 3/4 of a man's sexual pleasure lies, so you and he will be stripping your DS of that. -Just cause DH is happy with his sexual loss, is no reason to subject son to same. Besides it is painful traumatic and unnecessary. Tell DH to see a therapist if he has to. Have compassion for your son! Good luck! [ Reply | More ]
