What is the point here with all of these biting comparisons between schools. You have moms who fight the idea that Brearley is best, moms who want to scream St. Ann's is the greatest, then the moms who want to say Hunter and Anderson beat all the TT privates and then you have moms saying the tier order means nothing How about you all admit and understand that in comparison to the rest of the United States the education ALL of these dcs are getting is truly superior and leave it at that? Look, those schools are offering top educations. But it's ridiculous to say that no one else in the US is getting an education comparable to them. There are top schools throughout the country, not just here in NYC. [ Reply | More ]

lol no one can just let it rest. In NYC among all the private schools and the selective publics - really selective not G&Ts - there is the highest concentration of top US schools. Look at Newseeek, WSI lists every year [ Reply | More ]

Why isn't it good enough to say that your child is getting a great education, and not make comparisons at all? The competitiveness is so odd, I don't really care what other people's kids are doing. [ Reply | More ]

What are you trying to needle here, I was not making a nasty comment. I posted that all of these schools give superior educations in comparison to the rest of the US. I am trying to dilute the competition you are obviously trying to keep it going. [ Reply | More ]

LOL - No, you are doing the usual "everything is better here in NYC, we are so superior." It's become such second nature to us, we don't even see it anymore. [ Reply | More ]

Ok then so now stating factual evidence through percentages of admissions to top colleges, annual ranking published in various journals is offensive to you? It was not my intention to compare NYC to the world and say we were superior, it was my intention to diffuse the nonsense of comparison to each other within NYC. I think you need to relax a bit. Maybe OP is stating fact, I have seen several yrs of WJ and Us News and truth is NYC private and public schools are overwhelming in the top ten to twenty. What is your problem with that? [ Reply | More ]

Because it's simply another level of the same nonsense. [ Reply | More ]

Well, if you want to parse facts - facts are that even here in NYC some schools have better college placement, some have higher math scores, some have smaller teacher ratios. All amongst great educations. LET IT ALL GO. [ Reply | More ]

OP: It was not meant to be, it is obvious that the post was meant to diffuse competition not fuel it. That it fueled something in you and that you found issue and fault in it says volumes [ Reply | More ]

I really hope that in September, everyone will be calm. Because right now I am rethinking our decision to send DS to one of these schools with all the crazy mothers. [ Reply | More ]

OP: September is the worst time. If you feel strongly that you cannot block out all the insanity then yes you should think about not sending. IME it all calms down once people have a spot and a year at that school passes [ Reply | More ]

Sure a few boarding schools and a few in DC and Chicago, but none of those areas have as high a concentration of excellent schools as NYC does. Those are just facts [ Reply | More ]

My point is that it only matters where your kid is and if they are getting a great education. All the comparisons do not matter. [ Reply | More ]

NYC has some good high schools. Teh elementary schools are mostly not that good - at least not that good if you think schools should teach a lot. I'm including elite publics, second tier privates and some TT privates as well. [ Reply | More ]
