When you choose which ongoings to apply to, how do you weigh different factors? Academics 50% (traditional vs progressive, college exmissions), Non-academic factors 50% (such as diversity, community, emotional/mental health, etc.)? Asking because it seems some people assume decisions are made based on just one or two factors. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

There are 60 privates (or more). If you want to narrow the list, you have to think about these things. Even if to narrow down to 10. [ Reply | More ]

I mean all of these rating stuff and 'tt' stuff you cannot lose with about 15 of the privates no matter what tier they are supposed to be [ Reply | More ]

Even if you decide to apply to all 6 TTs (for a girl and 4 TTs for a boy), PSD still wants you to apply to 3 or 5 more. And, I just can't imagine people applying purely based on exmissions or academics alone. [ Reply | More ]

So visit and choose but if you want a great academic program the top 15 are great. And look, these schools produce very much the same kind of dc this progressive vs traditional stuff is just the way a schools PR differentiates itself, or tries to, but we all turn out very similarly [ Reply | More ]

In addition to 7 TTs, what other 8 schools make the top 15? St Anns, St B, Nightingale, CSH, Marymount, St D, ECFS, Riverdale?? I do think kids from traditional vs progressive schools are diff. Maybe SAT scores are similar but the way they approach things... I didn't go to progressive school, but my friend who has is diff from me. [ Reply | More ]

we wanted traditional, small, open to coed or ss but wanted religious affiliation. we also liked k-8 schools too. we also wanted a place where we felt dc would thrive and be happy. finally, we wanted a place where we were comfortable too [ Reply | More ]

This is where a family with experience at a school may be able to give helpful information. For example, I have dc at Grace, which has an exchange program with schools in Japan, China and India. This is remarkable for a preK-8 school. Also, many Grace students participate in the Grace Church boys and girls choirs, which is an amazing program. When we applied for the first time, I didn't know about either of these programs. [ Reply | More ]
