Someone talk me down...walked by ps 166 today and just about cried. I know the construction is temporary, but it's so horrible looking, feeling and smelling. Three men were hanging out under the overpass in front of the front door smoking. The smoke got all trapped under the scaffold and it stunk. Seems so dingy and I can tell DS is scared.[ [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Don't know what you're saying. It's summer and school's closed. Construction workers sometimes smoke. These things are separate. PS166 is a lovely school. Is it because it's 166 and not say, Anderson, that you're nervous. Because FYI, Anderson is located across a troubled public high school. [ Reply | More

It happens to be one of the loveliest public school buildings in Manhattan. It has fabulous proportions (high ceilings, big windows)and was completely renovated inside about 10 years ago. You're judging a school by it's "cover" and missing all the good stuff. Which includes the fact that the G&T there is very good. I'm an older mom and know many kids who went there for G&T, to Delta for MS and are now headed to top HS's. [ Reply | More

It's the summer. Chill. This is the time for grungy work to be done and lots of smoking and cursing on the job with no kids around. You should know what it's like inside the school buildings in the summer. The custodians have a blast cursing at the top of their lungs without kids around. [ Reply | More

Did you go to an orientation? We liked the inside of the building, the classrooms were light, and the women we met from the PTA (which raised $300k last year) seemed great. We are not zoned for 166 but are sending DS there in K for the G&T. We think it will be good. [ Reply | More
